In the January 2023 edition of the Knoxville Bar Association’s DICTA Publication, Keith Burroughs explains the many details that Attorneys must consider in the event of their retirement, disability, or death. Keith states that planning ahead can “take some of the burden off your loved ones, clients, and law partners.” This makes for a great resolution in 2023.
In the January 2023 edition of the Knoxville Bar Association’s DICTA publication, Kelly Street explains the deep history of civil rights that resides on the Second Balcony of the Bijou Theatre. It is the only place that African Americans were permitted to sit from 1909 to the 1960s. This location is one of the lasting places where this time in history can be visually seen to this day. In the words of Kelly Street, the Bijou Theatre Second Balcony is “a place where we can remember the people who fought for civil rights and honor their experience.”
The second Tuesday of April is International Be Kind to Lawyers Day! The holiday fell earlier this week on April 11, 2023. To celebrate, we look to the April 2021 edition of the Knoxville Bar Association’s DICTA publication. Cheryl Rice, Egerton McAfee’s Firm President, thoughtfully details the importance of International Be Kind to Lawyers Day. She states, “it is time for lawyers to take care of ourselves and of one another.”
In the September 2018 edition of the Knoxville Bar Association’s DICTA Publication, Keith Burroughs connects his love of gardening to the regular opportunities that attorneys have to “sow seeds.” He stresses the importance of purposeful connection. While the upcoming events Keith suggests have passed, the Knoxville Bar Association holds many opportunities for connection each month. Keith states that “it will do your heart good.”

In the May 2021 edition of the Knoxville Bar Association’s DICTA publication, Keith Burroughs explains the technology in his father’s law practice in the 1970’s. Wallace F. Burroughs and his secretary Ms. Clement relied on an IBM Selectric typewriter, a manual postal scale, a rotary telephone, 10-key tape adding machine, and a reel-to-reel tape recorder/player. These technologies, that are now outdated, served the needs of the firm at that time. Keith states, “it was a simpler time.” As technology continues to change, new future advancements “may very well make today the good ole days.”
