Throwback Thursday – DANGEROUS UNSELFISHNESS by Melissa Carrasco
In the June 2018 edition of the Knoxville Bar Association’s DICTA publication, Melissa Carrasco details the impact that two sanitation workers from Memphis had on the Civil Rights Movement. After being killed on the job, their story reached Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
On the day before his death Dr. King speaks on the term of “dangerous unselfishness.” He stressed the importance of focusing on the “well being of the other person.” When considering diversity in the legal profession, “the idea is that we actively turn aside from what is familiar and safe to embrace what is unfamiliar and perhaps risky.”
