Steve joined the firm upon graduation from law school in 1984 and currently serves as its President. His work at the firm has breadth as well as depth—Steve practiced litigation for over ten years before concentrating his practice in health care and business law.

His practice often involves advising urban and rural hospitals on healthcare and general business matters. He also represents physicians and physician groups in contracting and group practice issues. He has been lead counsel in several hospital merger and acquisition transactions, as well as in the syndication of hospitals and ambulatory surgery groups with physicians. In addition, he advises many non-healthcare related corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, and individual proprietorships on general business matters.

Steve is a board member and former Chairman of Wears Valley Ranch, a Christian children’s home and school, a founding board member of Knox County Christian Women’s Job Corp, and serves as legal adviser to various Christian non-profit organizations.

In addition to his membership in the Knoxville and American Bar Associations, he is a member of the Health Law section of both the Tennessee Bar Association and the American Bar Association, the American Health Lawyers Association, and the American Hospital Association.
